We Are…”

Debut single released worldwide on Better Get Records, Nov 22 2010. Available on download from your favourite online store.

One evening, at some awful party in East London, no doubt at an ungodly hour, and after more than one small sherry, MOBO-award nominated soul singer SugaJack (aka Nate James) and the almost-enigmatic Clyma (aka Matt Infadels) were introduced. Initially, the signs weren’t good. He said ‘tomarto’; and he said ‘tom-ato’.

(But. But! Tennant & Lowe. Mclaren and Westwood. Pope & Harman. The best couples are worlds apart.)

And lo and behold Clyma and Sugajack had soon given birth to ‘We Are…’ a bouncing bassline-fuelled slice of choonage. Tiny ghetto label Better Get Records snapped it up faster than a crocodile on a baby’s arm.

And *breathe* fans of pure pop, because, with its bleeping, squelching, synth-driven production, soulful vocals, singalong-a-vocoder, and empowering key change final chorus, ‘We Are…’ reaches for the heavens – and just about makes it there. Imagine, if you will, Crystal Waters sipping absinthe with PM Dawn (or perhaps Altern8); or, as Clyma quips: ‘Sly And the Family Stone jamming with Tensnake’.

But what does it all mean?

SugaJack: “Me being the Suga, the soul and him being the Smak, the beats and grit of the project. Being smaked in the face with a little suga.”

Clyma: “A celebration of individuals. The juxtaposition of two completely different people from two different walks of life.”

Okaaay. SugaSmak! About as frantic as a nun at a disco.
